Moda fantástica

Abstract

No one doubts about the relevance of costumes in a movie; countless garments help to shape the identity of the characters, whether heroes or villains, inspired by real people or products of the mind of the writers. In some cases, costume is even more recalled that the other elements of the film. The costumes in the film refers to characters social status, their psychology and their desires. In fantasy films, the challenge is even greater for costume designers. The filmmakers imagination is tested more than in other kinds of productions, since the work is to reproduce original accessories for nonhuman characters during different historical periods or in very distant galaxies.

This article will focus on fantasy, science fiction and horror movies costume. The focus will be especially on the most representative exponents of each sub-genre, from classics to the latest, which we can identify as the best examples of those trends that inspired many other films. Thus, we will see garnished costumes and simpler ones, but all unforgettable and very influential in other movies and in popular culture.
