Abstract

Summary: Research Project 5.1 presents a debate from an interdisciplinary perspective and from different perspectives, theoretical and regional views on the role of fashion and design in social relations. It defines that fashion, in addition to being a sociological phenomenon, constitutes a language that crosses economic, environmental, discursive, cultural and political dimensions. However, in general terms, fashion as an object of study has aroused little interest in academia. In particular, for the social sciences, the daily practice of dressing bodies, despite being a private act, is defined as a social practice that is carried out taking into account the norms, codes and values historically constructed on the appearance of the subjects in the contexts of interaction. Throughout its development, fashion has established permanent intersections with art and design, being one of the most significant and profitable industries in history.
