Abstract

The present text intends to make a historical review of design as a fundamental activity of the human being, not exclusive to academia, but as an activity with a long and profound presence that has been always adaptive to the various changes that people experience. The current tensions and contradictions in design education occur in a vertiginous, open, technological and global society, which has been the case since the first migration of our species until present days. Literature and studies seem unconnected trying to draw continuous lines to enable us questioning about the near future, and to look back at the great landmarks of the schools that transformed design teaching as a reflection of the world that they interpreted. Rethinking the economic, environmental and educational system is essential for education in any area and particularly for design. The human being has taught and learned to design from its very origin.
