Abstract
Located in a country village in the Central Area of Chile, the Alhue Museum is a community organization, with more than 30 years of existence. Although with a long track and extensive collection, many circumstances inhibited the museum to provide a permanent service and the relationship with the members of local the community had lose strength. A professional advice required in principle for the renewal of the permanent exhibition only, expanded later to the redesign of the institution and a project plan codesigned with community members and directors of the museum, that proposed a series of strategic moves such as a Community Engagement Plan, a Funding Strategy for the short and long terms, and a new corporate image to come along with this new era. All the above, allowed the Museum to made a strong improvement in its management, solving problems and changing substantial aspects. The main one was the incorporation of staff, with regular and reliable opening hours for the audience. This also came with the strengthening of community involvement in the museum, which was key to obtain public funding. As a consequence, the Museum has been able successfully to implement the Community Engagement Plan and the renewal of the permanent exhibition.
