Personal Growth Initiative and Basic Psychological Needs in Argentinian Students
Abstract
This research aimed to address changes in personal growth initiative (PGI) over three assessment periods in adolescent secondary school students from Entre Ríos, Argentina. It also assessed the relationship between PGI and basic psychological needs (BPN) at each time. The initial sample consisted of 313 adolescents, whose mean age was 13.46 (SD = 1.05). At subsequent time points, the same participants were assessed one and two years later. The Argentinean sample version of the Personal Growth Initiative Scale II and the adaptation of the Basic Psychological Needs Scale to the Argentinean educational context were used. A repeated measures MANOVA was carried out to determine the trajectory of PGI and Pearson's r correlation to measure the association between PGI and BPN. PGI showed a decrease towards the second moment in the Resource Utilization and Intentional Behavior components. Significant positive correlations were found between the dimensions of the variables.
