Abstract

This article is based on ROMA analysis, an intimist and self-referential film about the Mexican Alfredo Cuarón´s childhood, narrated from Cleo´s point of vew, the young mixteco maid. Being located in a high middle- class area at México city, the filmic text shows the employee and employer´s daily life, in which a social and cultural inequality is depicted. The above mentioned runs in parallel with the social tensión the country goes through at the beginning of the seventies. The aim of this paper is to address issue of violence from the public spectrum as well as the private one , focused in that familiar group where several ways of oppresion and submission are put into perspective through the role the indigenous people descendants have, being considered as the others in the society (Todorov, 1998). ROMA is a metaphor about Mexican history, its past and its present.
