Entre Between Urbicide and Juvenicide in the Brazilian Reality
Traces of Blood in the Periphery of the Capital
Abstract
This article seeks to articulate two apparently different phenomena, Urbicide and Juvenicide, as expressions of the cyclical and structural crisis of Capitalism. Young people, although legally recognized as subjects of rights, are victims of the absence of social policies, mainly in the peripheries, territories violated by the Penitenciary State. Class, gender and ethnic-racial inequalities impact living conditions of youth without employment, without schooling, without rights, exposed to violence and imprisonment. Public Policies established until then promoted limited actions that focused on recruiting young people to the labor market, dissociated from public policies of basic social protection, which were increasingly precarious. Neoliberal reforms take away jobs and social rights, mainly from young population. Youth, however, full of potential, can lead movements of resistance to this social project that excludes, imprisons and kills.
